Take a step into The Salad Shop, located in Baton Rouge, LA, and you will immediately feel a sense of unparalleled health and joy. If you blink you might miss this darling little shop that serves salads, wraps, and soups at college-student friendly prices. In 2013 The Salad Shop became one of the few destinations for healthy food in the Baton Rouge area thanks to a recent LSU graduate, Bradley Sanchez.
Sanchez can be seen at the Perkins Rd. location spreading the mission of The Salad Shop to each customer he serves. 'Think greens' is the slogan of the shop that Sanchez advertises religiously. He wanted to give the city, mainly known for delectable seafood, a healthy alternative that won't hinder your wallet or waistband.
I was pleasantly surprised with the amazing options when it came to creating my own salad or choosing from the delicious signature salads available on their menu. With 50 different ingredients and 12 different dressings to choose from the possibilities are endless. For only $9 or less I was about to get a sizable serving specifically designed for me. The service is quick and the staff is friendly and precise. I have never walked in there not seeing the staff smiling. All the ingredients are fresh and chopped together in a metal bowl for your viewing pleasure. Once you approve your salad it is tossed with dressing and placed in a recyclable plastic container ready to be engulfed.
The Fiery Fiesta Salad with chicken and jalapeño ranch dressing is my absolute favorite. Fresh chopped avocado is placed on top with cajun seasonings for an extra kick of spice. Soups range from Broccoli Cheddar to Tradition Chicken Noodle. If you choose to get a wrap instead there are unlimited choices as well as the signature wraps available.
The Salad Shop is a favorite to many students and professors. After eating my Fiery Fiesta salad I never feel lethargic. I maintain great energy and am full enough to focus on my tasks for the day. It is a great option for dinner or lunch, and should never be passed up. The quality of each salad showcases the love of the staff and the 'think greens' mentality. I will certainly miss this quaint Baton Rouge gem when I return to Dallas, Texas.
